We’re leaning into Thriftmas this year, and honestly, it feels like a breath of fresh air.
I’m incredibly grateful that we’re in a season where we can buy our kids new things if we want to. That hasn’t always been the case, and I never take that for granted. But I’m also humble enough to know this truth: they won’t remember the price tag.
They’ll remember the feeling.
They’ll remember the warmth of Christmas morning, the excitement in the room, and the way it felt to be together. They’ll remember the magic, not whether the toy came from a big-box store or a thrift shop shelf.
And if we’re being really honest, avoiding a midnight “assembly argument” with my husband on Christmas Eve feels like a Christmas miracle in itself. 😂 No missing screws. No rage-building instruction manuals. No whisper-fighting while trying not to wake the kids. That alone deserves its own holiday ribbon.
This year, choosing secondhand isn’t about being cheap or cutting corners. It’s about being intentional. It’s about resisting the pressure to overdo, overbuy, and overcomplicate a season that’s already heavy with expectations, especially for moms.
There’s something grounding about slowing down and asking a few simple questions.
Do we really need more?
Or do we just need enough?
Thrifting gives us the chance to say yes to creativity, nostalgia, and sustainability, while also saying no to excess. It’s less clutter, less stress, and often way more character.
And let’s talk about the magic of a good thrift find for a second. Like the $10 dollhouse gem we scored thanks to our friends at Hope’s Closet. It’s proof that meaningful doesn’t have to mean expensive, and that joy can come from the most unexpected places.
So what about you? Are you going simple this year? Going all out? Leaning thrifted? Or finding yourself somewhere in between?
However your Christmas looks, let it be one that feels good, not one that feels forced. Because the memories we’re making matter far more than the receipts we’re keeping.
